70,000 Tons of Metal Cruise

I’m not sure how long ago this was announced, but I recently found out about the ’70000 Tons of Metal’ Cruise.  From what I can gather this seems to be the first to bear the name although the concept is simple. A 5 day Metal Festival on water, in a luxury cruise liner. The ship sets off from Miami, Florida and voyages to Mexico before heading backing to Florida.  And with over 40 bands promised you know it’s gotta be good! Bands confirmed so far are as follows:

  • Amon Amarth
  • Sodom
  • Sonata Arctica
  • Stratovarius
  • Trouble
  • Witchburner

And the best part? It will be considered a holiday for the bands taking part as well, meaning (according to the site), ‘ [an] opportunity to mingle side-by-side with the artists in this incredibly fan-friendly scenario’.  Certainly this sounds like an awesome experience, but will band members really want to be harassed by fans for 5 days straight? It seems like a really cool concept in this way, I just hope it works out like that.

The price seems to be another problem for the average metal-head.  The cheapest room option would cost you $955 which of course doesn’t include alcohol and the cost of getting to and from Florida. It may be well worth the cost, but unless I happen to stumble upon a small fortune in the next few months I know this is one experience I’ll be missing out on for the time being.
